Gone With the gnome

Story

An archaeologist goes on a trip into a deep forest. Through the cave and into another forest, he ends up finding a giant tree within enclosed valley of surrounding mountains. The giant tree was originally housed by gnomes. As the archaeologist explores the place, he finds books that would give the backstory to the gnomes. In actuality, the gnomes disappeared because they were at their lives' end so they sealed themselves in the tree.

Role

Level Designer

  • Planned and white-boxed the layout of the level using BSPs and simple geometries to show what the players will be going through in the level.

  • Modeled structures that would be key marks of the map and to show the players what the environment is like.

  • Placed encounters to lead players from one point of the map to the next points.

Tech Designer

  • Scripted collectibles, using Blueprints, where the books would rotate to distinguish from static environments and give feedback once picked up by player.

  • Placed trigger event for the players to see a level sequence that shows the exit of the level.
